Foreclosure Counseling

Community Development Corporation of Utah is a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) approved counseling agency. CDCU staff provides a full range of pre- and post-purchase counseling, including foreclosure mitigation counselling

The first step in the counseling process is to attend a Foreclosure Prevention Class.  This class discusses the various types of workouts we are seeing from the mortgage industry, including specific government programs, and some of the factors that go into lenders’ decisions about mortgage workout.  We also discuss the foreclosure timeline in Utah so that homeowners can know what to expect if they fall behind on payments.  Click here to view the calendar of CDCU’s upcoming classes.  You can register online or call 801-994-7222 x 102 to leave a message for a counselor.  For your convenience you can also view the Statewide FC Class Schedule Jan-June 2012 for classes given by other HUD-approved agencies or in the Salt Lake area and throughout Utah in order to find one that best fits your schedule.

After attending the class you may feel that you need additional assistance.  CDCU offers one-on-one counseling to help homeowners put together a hardship packet to submit to their lender and can assist you through the review process.  In order to set up an appointment with a counselor we must receive a complete intake packet.  Packets will be available at the Foreclosure Prevention Class, or you can use the forms below.

A complete foreclosure intake packet includes copies (not originals) of ALL of the following forms:

  • Two most recent pay stubs, if applicable, for all household members 18 years old or older
  • Other income documentation (child support, Social Security, rent income, etc.)
  • Welfare Assistance/Food Stamps Award Letter & Deposit Statement, if applicable
  • 2 most recent bank statements-all pages (checking, savings, CDs, money market)
  • Most recent federal tax return on file
  • One current utility bill (power, gas, or water)
  • Most recent morgage statement
  • Hardship Letter (see sample above in CDCU Foreclosure Documents)

You can return them in the manner most convenient for you:
