Home Buyer Education Services

Stock-photo-oneCommunity Development Corporation of Utah is a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) approved counseling agency. CDCU staff provides a full range of pre and post-purchase counseling and education services.

Homebuyer Education Workshops

CDCU provides homebuyer education workshops to increase the likelihood of successful homeownership and reduce mortgage problems. Each person who attends the workshop is also required to meet with a counselor one-on-one for pre-purchase counseling so that they can ask questions in a confidential environment. This counseling session helps prevent predatory lending, and helps the potential homeowner feel more at ease with the homebuying process. Pre-Purchase Counseling

Pre-purchase counseling may contain a review of credit repair, debt reduction, and current employment stability. CDCU and the participant prepare a personal home purchase plan. This may be a short-term plan if they are ready to purchase a home, or it may be long-term if they have credit and/or debt problems.

HomeWorks Classes

Our HomeWorks Classes are for new home owners.  In this class you will learn how to protect your #1 investment by learning how to weather the storm of home maintenance & rising energy costs. You'll get to participate in hands-on demonstrations, learn about a variety of issues and receive instruction from guest professionals in the industry. The class is offered 3 times a year with various rotating subjects to prepare for the coming season and concerns. Become empowered to identify & fix several maintenance issues & how to budget for the big ticket items.  We’ll show how to work with your home & not against it. Lunch is provided & you can enter drawings to win prizes & discounts!  Click here to view calendar of upcoming classes & register online.

Post-Purchase Counseling

The goal of post purchase counseling is to reduce the risk for default on home loans by low-income families during the first two years after purchasing a home when the chance of default is greatest. The family is encouraged to convert the savings account that was in place to purchase the home into a home-maintenance savings account as well as keep a regular monthly budget.
